Oribe Campaign Shoot | Editorial Beauty Photography Case Study
This editorial beauty campaign for Oribe in San Diego was created to explore luminous texture, refined color, and a more atmospheric approach to product imagery. As a photographer working at the intersection of fine art and commercial work, I’m drawn to projects that allow brand imagery to feel both elevated and alive.
For this shoot, the focus was on creating imagery that felt clean and intentional while still retaining softness and movement. I wanted the images to hold onto a sense of atmosphere—something tactile and emotive—while still functioning clearly as commercial assets.
This balance is central to how I approach editorial beauty photography and product-focused brand work.
I create imagery for beauty, skincare, and wellness brands that need visuals capable of living across multiple platforms—campaign, web, social, and print. My work is rooted in natural light, refined composition, and a fine-art sensibility that allows brand imagery to feel more dimensional and human.
This commercial campaign for Oribe, the luxury haircare brand known for elevated packaging and refined formulation. took place at a mid-century hotel on Bahia, San Diego — clean architectural lines, warm concrete, layered palms, and directional coastal light. San Diego light is direct but soft at the edges, which allowed the products and wardrobe tones to hold depth without feeling harsh.
We built the visuals around contrast: sculptural product still lifes styled against muted blush and botanical greens, paired with fashion-forward portraits showcasing the incredible styling by icon Benjamin Holtrop that felt structured but effortless. The product shots were styled by Heather Nan, using clear acrylic, mirrored surfaces, and tropical foliage which grounded the set without overpowering the product.
I shot the campaign on film to preserve tonal nuance and color integrity. Film renders texture — glass, packaging, skin — with dimensionality that aligns naturally with luxury beauty branding. It keeps highlights controlled and color transitions organic.
This project reflects the type of commercial beauty photography I’m drawn to: controlled composition, intentional color theory, and imagery that supports brand identity without distraction.
While I’m based in Spokane but regularly work with brands outside the region, this San Diego campaign expanded my palette — both visually and creatively. Coastal architecture and desert-adjacent light introduced a different energy, but the core approach remains the same: refined, editorial, and brand-driven.
If you’re a beauty or luxury brand seeking elevated commercial photography — whether in Spokane, the Pacific Northwest, or on location — I’d love to collaborate.
